True Colors

There are many times I have a read a story and never really understood the point that the author was trying to get across, and with the reason in that was I was not able to really see the symbolism in the story. When the reader digests a story, they think only what the eye saw to read, but when you really look deeper into a story, and put in a little more thought, you'll see that certain actions, colors, pictures, have a whole other meaning.

When reading more of the Native American based stories, colors have a huge take on what point they are trying to get across. The color of the sky. moon, even the color symbolizes what emotion to feel. In the story the yellow woman, have you ever really wondered why the woman was chosen to be called "The Yellow Woman," and not blue,pink or green? is portrays a significance in the story and plays a huge role as to why she is the way she is. Within the portraits that native aemericans draw, everything has a significance, such as the clouds within rain and lightening shows renewal, and the start toa new beginning. When you look at old portraits of native american art you see rainbows blood, circles, squares, ovals. They all show something whether you can see it or not. The six main colors that are used for all Native American paintings are red, black, blue, green,yellow and white. They have a simple meaning of life, that shows many actions, such as for example, the yellow signifies sunshine,light, refreshness just like the sun, as to where red signifies, blood,hurt, pain,earth, war. When reading the yellow woman, as you kind of getting a better understanding of the main character you can understand as to why they chose yelloe instead of red, green or blue. Yellow shows the light, the other side of the tunnel type of thing. When the woman is in the wild with the man she is transformed, whether she can feel it or not, she left a very innocent closed off woman then came back as someone with new insight on mind, and views.It was a very drastic tranformation.

Colors show more and have more than what people can see or give credit for. Even today in this century, colors are used to signify pictures, even if its just as simple as the stop on the corner of your street, or the the green light you pass to get to work. Those colors were chosen for a specific reason.

Most people think that just because your a woman you automatically lack some type of quality, whether it be strength ,the smarts or the will to do something. Woman have come along way from the way that things used to be. Back in the 19th century woman had no rights, had no ambition or even their own specific train of thought. Men were the head strong, top gender, a woman wasn't able too think what she wanted only what the man wanted her to think, or do what she wanted unless the man had given her permission. In the past stories that we have read it showed how times were back then and woman on the rise to try and change them. The woman in the story such as Lasater, was a very strong woman. She had actually had the power to control thing and once she did, the men nor society approved. Woman looked down upon her for what she was doing, but of course men did not like it at all. She knew what she had, the land that was left to her and she also knew why the men were coming after her so much. Woman today have more power than what they perceive. They sometimes still today get pushed down , but because they are woman they bounce back. There are finally woman politicians, doctors (not just nurses), leaders in organizations, construction workers, and so many more things. It is honestly harder to find a woman who is not such an individual and doesn't seek independency in this century. Woman today are the ones who "hold" the families together. Statistically showing woman are the ones who have to provide for the familes now, there are more unfit fathers out in this world than ever before.

In the story Lasater it showed a side of these changes, and that they were in the near future whether people wanted to see them or not. Lasater showed that the change invoolved maybe the man answering to the woman, and that the man is able to follow the womn, it does not have to be other way around. Woman do have the capacity to actually take on something powerful and overcome it. In the story of  course no one resepected Lasater for following the woman but it did happen and it helped out so much. Woman were born to be leaders and the more level-headed gender, but men always took our kindness for weakness. Woman lead not only men now, but they lead so many others into new accomplishements everyday. Organzations who have saved lives are led by woman, a person lying on their death bed could be easily saved by a woman physician. In this century anything is possible.
